Artist Statement and About Me. 

Mia Klavon is a native of Michigan and a graduate of the Kendall College of Art and Design and Eastern Michigan University. After serving roughly 6 years in the Army, she worked several metal and woodworking jobs before pursuing art as a full time career in 2018. 

...And with that said... I never successfully created a well articulate artist statement that said anything beyond that!

I create because I absolutely have to or my soul will shrivel up. And it's a nautical body of work because I never run out of inspiration- I love the diversity of intelligence and always wanted to be a mermaid!

I have a bit of wood finishing training and I transferred those skills I learned into my fine art. When painting on a canvas, one begins with a white background which can be intimidating if one is a perfectionist... the wood already comes with a yellow finish so that first nervous step has already been taken for me. I love vibrant colors too!
