Historically while the majority have been male, there were around 100 known female pirates. We know that of that 100 about 40 of were active in the, "Golden Age of Piracy." These impressive women were captains and they commanded their own fleets. The most well known and powerful of these women were Zhen Yi Sao 1775-1844 and Huang Bamei 1906-1982.
